Obama Confuses Government And Religion, Again

“I hear politicians talking about values in an election year,” Obama said. “I hear a lot about that. Let me tell you about values. Hard work, personal responsibility–those are values. But looking out for one another. That’s a value. The idea that we’re all in this together. I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s keeper. That’s a value.”

The Left loves to invoke the Bible when it suits their purpose. The problem is, like many of their quotes, nowhere in the Bible does the phrase “I am my brother’s keeper” appear. The closest phrase comes from Genesis 4:9 in which God asks Cain where Abel is. Cain replies in what seems to be a sarcastic tone, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

For argument’s sake, let’s stipulate that “I am my brother’s keeper” is actually in the Bible and let’s go further to suggest that it’s even one of the 10 Commandments. At no point can anyone with a marginal understanding of government and the US Constitution assume being your brother’s keeper means wealth redistribution or that it’s the government’s job to ensure you “keep” your brother.
